A novel about the process of growing up, learning to be alone, and understanding the world as it truly is — not as one would wish it to be. The story begins with the birth of Bambi, a roe deer fawn who comes into the world in a forest clearing in the height of summer. His mother tends to him with a quiet, practical tenderness: she teaches him which plants he can eat, how to move without making a sound, and above all, when to run. From a very young age, Bambi learns that the forest holds two kinds of creatures: those that fear, and those that have no need to. He belongs to the first.
