Beowulf is the oldest epic poem in English literature, composed between the seventh and tenth centuries by an anonymous author, and set in the pagan Scandinavia of the fifth and sixth centuries. It is a story about what it means to be a hero, the price of glory, and the certainty that everything — even the greatest of warriors — is ultimately defeated.
